rojak.core.derivatives.spatial_laplacian(array, units, gradient_mode, geod=None, crs=None)[source]#

Laplacian of a scalar field on a latitude/longitude grid

\[\nabla^{2} f = \frac{ \partial^{2} f }{ \partial x^{2} } + \frac{ \partial^{2} f }{ \partial y^{2} }\]

Computed as the divergence (see divergence()) of the field’s gradient (see spatial_gradient()).

Parameters:
  • array (DataArray) – Field to compute the Laplacian of. Must have "longitude" and "latitude" dimensions.

  • units (LatLonUnits) – Units array’s latitude/longitude coordinates are expressed in

  • gradient_mode (GradientMode) – Whether to correct the gradient for map projection distortion, see spatial_gradient()

  • geod (Geod | None) – Geodesic used to compute the nominal grid spacing. Defaults to a WGS84 ellipsoid.

  • crs (CRS | None) – Coordinate reference system used to compute projection correction factors. Defaults to plain latitude/longitude.

Returns:

Laplacian of array

Return type:

DataArray
