EDR Lunnon CAT diagnostic

EDR Lunnon is a simplification of Roach’s EDR predictor by [GillBuchanan2014], it ignores the temperature term in Roach’s equation [Roach1970] and multiplies it by vertical wind shear squared (expressed in terms of change in pressure instead of altitude). It is defined as,

Parameters:
  • u_wind (DataArray) – Zonal wind speeds in m/s

  • v_wind (DataArray) – Meridional wind speeds in m/s

  • shear_deformation (DataArray) – Shear deformation in m/s

  • stretching_deformation (DataArray) – Stretch deformation in m/s
