Requesting additional GitHub Copilot usage
Use this process if you need GitHub Copilot usage beyond the fair usage limit provided by Imperial’s centrally funded arrangement.
Before you start
You need a cost code for your group and approval to incur the additional cost. If you want a budget applied to the subscription, decide the budget amount before submitting the request.
Request an Azure subscription
Request an Azure subscription linked to your group’s cost code using the Azure Subscription request form.
When completing the form, explain that the subscription is for GitHub Copilot usage. This allows the relevant team to attach the subscription to the GitHub cost centre. Include the budget amount if you want a budget applied.
Billing flow
The billing process works as follows:
Imperial cost centre → Azure Subscription → GitHub cost centre (budget applied) → GitHub user account
Your cost code funds the Azure subscription, which is linked to a GitHub cost centre. When you use GitHub Copilot, costs are deducted from your group’s GitHub budget. This allows ICT to track usage and costs by group and cost code.
