Requesting access
How you request access to GitHub Copilot depends on whether you are a student or a member of staff.
Students
Students can access GitHub Copilot for free through GitHub Education. Once approved, Copilot is included as part of the GitHub Student Developer Pack.
To apply, follow the GitHub documentation: Apply to GitHub Education as a student.
Staff
All staff members access GitHub Copilot through a GitHub Copilot for Business license. The process for requesting a license depends on your department.
For background information on GitHub Copilot for Business at Imperial, including costs and benefits, see GitHub Copilot for Business at Imperial.
You’ll need to be a member of the ImperialCollegeLondon organisation on GitHub to access the request form. If you’re not a member, you can sign-up by following How do I gain access to the Imperial College London organisation on GitHub.
ICT departments
Request a license by completing Imperial’s GitHub Copilot license request form.
Other departments
Before you can request a license, ensure the following prerequisites are in place. For details on why these are required and how they work, see GitHub Copilot for Business at Imperial:
- Cost code - You must have a cost code for your department (or team)
- Azure Subscription - You must have an Azure Subscription linked to your cost code. Request one using the Azure Subscription request form
- Azure Subscription linked to a GitHub cost centre – When completing the Azure Subscription request form, mention that this is for GitHub Copilot usage so the relevant team can attach your subscription to the GitHub cost centre
Once the prerequisites are complete, use the GitHub Copilot license request form to request your license, selecting your Azure Subscription name from the dropdown.
