Transferring Repositories

To take advantage of the features of GitHub Enterprise Cloud, as mentioned under What does Imperial’s GitHub License include, you can transfer repos from your personal account or other organisations to the main Imperial College London organisation.

How to transfer a repository to the Imperial College London organisation

To transfer a repo to the Imperial College London organisation, please follow the steps below.

  1. Ensure you’ve read the official GitHub documentation on Transferring a repository. This contains important points you need to be aware of such as prerequisites and items that are transferred.

  2. Navigate to the repo you want to transfer and click Settings.

  3. Scroll down to the “Danger Zone” section and click Transfer.

  4. Under “New owner”, choose which organisation you want to transfer the repository to. This should be the “ImperialCollegeLondon” organisation.

  5. Type the repository name to confirm and then click “I understand, transfer this repository”.

If “ImperialCollegeLondon” doesn’t appear under the list of organisations, you may need to single sign-on to the organisation first. There should be a banner at the top of the page asking you to do this.

After transferring the repo, you may notice you’ve lost admin access to it. This is normal and your admin permission should be added back within one hour. If not, please Contact the ICT Service Desk.
